Getting ready to head out to St. George Island tomorrow. Anyone else going to be in the area this week?

I have tried to find some fishing reports but haven't found anything specific to the Bob Sikes Cut or surf...it's all mostly off shore fishing reports. Anyone got any reports for the cut?

The water still looks good in that area but I'm not finding any recent reports either.The oil spill is moving the fish closer in to the beaches so it may be better then usual.Then again they might all be sharks chasing bait.

Today's Status: St. George Island is magnificent, the waters are clear and the seafood is divine. Current guests are uploading real time pictures on Facebook so become a fan if you haven't already. Scallop season was moved up and began this past weekend too. We've heard they are plentiful.

Franklin County is now staged with both "hard" boom to deflect and "soft" boom to "collect" any oil that may arrive, and it is currently being deployed in the Bay - to the east of the first fishing pier as you cross the bridge. This is great news and in no way reflects the presence of oil, it's just a precautionary measure.

The University of South Florida's ''Ocean of Circulation Group'' within their College of Marine Science, maintains simulated maps based on drifters/particles released at the site of the sunken oil rig. These drifters are dropped every three hours. We watch the simulation on a daily basis and encourage you to do so, too.

I'm here now. The beaches here on the island are completely untouched and beautiful. Never would have a clue as to what is going on in other areas of the gulf by the looks of this beach.

I was able to get out this morning at sunrise. All I got was 4 small catfish, using frozen shrimp and sand fleas.

I tried catching some pinfish with a zabiki rig, but didn't have any luck. Guess I may have to take a trip to the bridge for that.

We are about 2000 yards from the bob sikes cut, so I may try to walk out that way later tonight or tomorrow. Does anyone know if there is any public fishing dock on the inside of the cut? Or what is the best way and place to fish that area?

St george

I was at St. George yesterday. Fishing with dead shrimp(very fresh), I kept one trout about 20 inches and 6 nice whiting. Some people were having some success with blue crab on the bay side. Bite was slow on the beach, but it was beautiful.

I always like to fish Sike's cut on the ouitgoing tide. This time of year the water from the bay will be a little dingy compared to teh clear water of the Gulf. Fish out about 50-75 yards in that area where the bay water meets the clear water of the Gulf. Get rid of those frozen shrimp... drive over to Presnell' s Bait and Tackle on 30A between Port Saint Joe and get you some live shrimp to fish with, you have lots better luck.
