In an attempt to lure tourists to Florida's waters, Gov. Charlie Crist announced two free fishing weekends that will allow anyone to fish for saltwater sea life around the state without a license.

The first free weekend begins during the Memorial Day weekend from May 29th through May 31st and the following weekend from June 5th to June 6th, which is the beginning of red snapper season.

Crist also stressed that the state's beaches are clear and that the fish are plentiful.

Florida Wildlife Commission chairman Rodney Baretto said he hopes the fishing weekend will help clear up the misconception that the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has affected Florida's beaches.

"Gov. Crist's actions to offer free fishing this weekend and next will do wonders for our business communities that have been suffering cancellations since the oil spill started," Barreto said in a statement. "We aren't experiencing any oil impacts here, and the fact remains that Florida is open for business."

Mayor Larry Vaughn- "We are open for business. Go for a swim"

Yes- this sounds just like JAWS, and the Mayor of Amity Island, is telling Police Chief Brody, to take his wife out into the water so that the July 4th tourists can see that there really isn't a killer shark out there swimming around eating people. We need Captain Quint and his boat Orca to do something, and they are still in port. If I was a tourist who had planned a Florida fishing trip, a free pass on the license wouldn't get me to change my mind one way or the other. Why not just say-  kids eat free at IHOP on every third Tuesday of the month ?

These people we elect are useless. The governor should be involved with creating a solution to plug the hole. Yet we get - tourists fish free for two weekends,

Thank gawd this didn't happen up there is that pristine wilderness area called ANWAR. Two dozen very cold caribou would be furious with us right now.
