My kids recieved an allowance as follows: I provided a car, insurance and major repairs. They paid for gas, oil change etc. If they wanted to go out with their friends they had to work for the money. I have a business that they could work at to earn some income. The kids lived at home as they went to UNF. They had a 75% scholarship. I would pickup the balance of the cost of books, etc. Bottom line: $150/mo. for transportation, books etc.
Everytime they complained I would tell them that I loaded trucks at UPS from 10pm to 3am every night for two and a half years when I was in school. No help from parents, no scholarship........you get the picture
