Well, hit the beach about 7;45am today.... less than 5 mins after I put out the baits I saw the familiar tug-tug-tug, tightened-up on it and the fight was on...  it pulled some line a couple times, but I went easy on it since it definitely wasn't gonna spool me and I had kinda old rigs on that had some abrasion (I know... livin' dangerously).... got it in to about 35yds off the beach and the hook dislodged (even tho I had constant pressure on it).  The hook was slightly bent, but didn't look like enuf of a bend to cause a release.  I'd estimate it was about 15-20 lbs.

Put a new rig on and fished another 3 hrs... just 1 more bite at 11am which ended up being a medium-sized palometa which is on ice now.  :-)

I hope to get out there on Boca beach again tomorrow or Friday....  :-)

Are you still using those eagle claw 2/0 hooks.I hope not as you get too many permit down that way.I saw your other permit and was wondering why your catching the small ones that your suppose to save for Steve's spring trip down that way.

I see it got down to 65º and you dressed like an Eskimo,or is that for sun protection?

I'm still waiting for you to send a few of those permits up here in N Fla.Just point them north if you release one.

Naw, never use those Eagle Claw 197's myself.... too bendy for bigger fish IMHO.  I use Owner Mutu Lite 2/0, but this got me thinkin' about using the regular Mutu hooks which would be a tad stronger.... wondering if it would affect my permit bite???

the Buff and long sleeves are for sun protection (actually cancer protection).... actually comfortable this time of year, but not so hot (actually quite hot) in the summer down here.  However, in the sun, the buff actually is quite cool... as soon as you start perspiring a bit, it gets a cooling affect.

As soon as I decide to release a tasty permit I will whisper in his ear to head North to Jax....
