When I was a kid, barefoot was the rule rather than the exception. Epsom Salts saved my life countless times from "blood poisoning."

Barefoot was the rule but not on the pier, at least not for me. Too many protruding nails, splinters, and the aforementioned catfish. One of my grandfather's friends owned the pier and his advice was to wear hard-sole shoes, but I just couldn't go that far and chose the sneakers instead.
