I probably would not have gotten stuck if I hadn't been doing surgery to retrieve my rig.

For catfish or sting ray wounds I always treat them like a snake bite. Take your filet knife and cut an X and then find the best looking girl on the beach and ask her to suck the poison out. Doesn't do much for the pain but it is a great way to make new friends.

Tell it at our next Big Shark Saturday Night in a few weeks.

When I was a kid I used to spend countless hours fishing on the Jax Beach pier. There were some folks that didn't know how lethal a hard tail can be and used to just throw them on the boards and leave them. After a few hours of baking in the hot sun, those spines stand straight up. I stepped on a big one and the dorsal spine went right through my tennis shoe and a good ways into the meat part of my foot. My God, worst pain I have ever felt. I immediately went home and my stepfather, a physician, had me soak my foot in warm water with epsom salts and the pain diminished greatly. Don't know why it worked and haven't had the opportunity to try that remedy again, and hope I never do. Could have been a placebo effect, but it sure worked.
