Rick, I want to thank you for your introduction to this growing movement that can, will and already has restricted our rights as recreational fisherwomen and men. The march on Washington on February 24th woke me up to some sad facts concerning the future of recreational fishing and additionally made me aware of how uninformed I am. Your invitation as a guest at our club meeting was intended as an eyeopener, and judging from the comments (even the abridged versions), you have opened some eyes. Like Oscar, I plan to investigate further, but I'm not going to sit by on my indignation until I decide, I am going to join your cause and put my money where your mouth is.
Federal fights seem futile so I would like to know a bit more about how we can follow South Carolina's lead (words I never thought would cross my fingertips, I'm still mad at them going back to 1862), but in this instance I believe they are on to something. Just how did South Carolina throw the Federal Government out of their coastal waters? I am down with that!
Thanks again,
Your Friend

For the sake of clarification since some have misunderstood, my earlier short and to the point comment was in reponse to the orginal poster asking what I thought of the ariticle by Montgomery. I have read the report of the President's task force and until I see some proof of these claims and not just speculation and conjecture by a fear monger, my opinion will remain the same .

Rick, if you are checking this post, I'd like some clarification of the claims you made about the CCA, specifically their vote to ban Snapper fishing. Where is that documented? Where did they get a vote? I'd like something in writing. After a discussion with a nice guy named Charlie, at lunch today, it seems the CCA and RFA have more common interest and in fighting would be counter productive.
Thoughs and writing, please.
Thanks.
Oh, and check Yahoo News today.
And W.T, let me understand your point, you will believe it when you see it? When you visit in April, feel free to drive down to Matanzas Inlet, a right we have had in north Florida as long as we have had wheels. Oops, that's right, you can't. A defunct 1980's law was resurrected and used to rob us of one more little freedom. It was shutdown before we could organize a fish fry.

SL,,,, no you don't get my point at all,,,,,, I have driven down to Manataza serveral times,,,, ( one time too many),,,, They didn't ban fishing at Manataza did they,? , just that you can 't drive you vehicle down to the beach anymore,,,,,,,. and the times I was there and what i saw of the damage being done to the dunes by vehicles they needed to ban drving down there...... More and more fishierman , more and more vehicles,,,, one too many Aholes , I said twenty years ago that the day is coming when driving of the beach will be a thing of the past.. I still believe that. I dislike the use of fear tactics in an effort to motivate people,,,,, I wasnt' at the meeting so i don't know what the RCA is or what it stands for,,,, but the article that was posted on this board is nothing more that BS..... One should offer proof when they make such statements as were stated in the article.... and there was none given.. I'm all for fighting for the preservation of our access to beaches but this is the wrong way of going about it .. The CCA doesn't run around hollaring that the "sky is falling". Read the Presidents Task Force REport and tell me what you don't agree with.

You are right about one thing, they didn't ban fishing at Matanzas, just access. They didn't ban fishing on the 15 mile stretch of Ponte Vedra beach, either, just access. Miami, just access; Fernandina, just fishing and access.
I will read the report because I haven't studied this nearly enough and do respect other's opinions. I will say that I am very skeptical of the Federal Govenment's meddling in what I consider the business of the individual state.
What is the link to the President's Task Force Report, by the way.
Again, just curiosity, what tactics do you like to use to motivate people?
