Casting style  (N/A)

I can't go to any of the surf fishing classes, so I am planning on learning from youtube.  I see all the different types of casts there are, but I am wondering which one I should start with.

Thanks

Thump cast is by far the easiest and most natural and is probably the cast that you currently use. Next up would be the off-the-ground (OTG) cast. Perfect these before moving on to the more "exotic" techniques like the pendulum.

I watched a few videos of the OTG cast and that one seemed pretty user friendly.  There wasn't as much for the thump cast.  That one is basically swinging the bait back and forth then a straight overhead cast right?  I just want to learn something that hopefully won't fling the bait off as long as I learn it and use it in a controlled fashion and don't rip it too hard.  Thanks for the reply.

Good advice. I often see people trying to do some variation of a power cast that is ill-suited for them.

Try them all. I use a  Brighton or Overhead  cast because it requires no back space to cast. Nice when the foot traffic  behind you on the beach is high . JMHO C2
