Yesterday, while shopping at the navy commissary at NAS JAX , I noticed several Pompano in the seafood case. These fish were about 11" at most, were not particularly fresh looking and had the bright red eyes associated with fish caught by net and pulled by the dragger for a while.(Just like all the by-catch Croakers you see washed up on the beach when the shrimpers are anchored up nearshore cleaning their nets.)

Anyhow they had a tag on their little price sign which said "Farm Raised". I asked where the farm was and received the "what the hell you talking about stare". Anyhow they were selling for $5.50 a pound.

Anybody have any knowledge about farm raised Pompano? Where is the farm?.

Here's one place that's farming them. Not sure where the farm is, the company address in Oak Hill FL. They also don't give any details on their sales. http://www.pompanofarms.com/

I'm not sure about farm raised pomps but you use to be able to get 10-11" pomps at Mayport. They bring them in from Asia and they are nasty looking.
