Answer
Alligator Snapping turtle are endangered in most areas of their range so I wouldn't be killing an eatiing them, as they might be the most expensive turtle you've ever eaten.

The last that I had tasted just fine! (bout 40 years ago)

Cleaning them is a trick though. Dad always said that if you grip the shell and stick them in the rear w/a sharp enough knife, they will crawl right out of the shell.

They will get you in trouble these days-so better let her go.

Besides, they don't taste any better than the mullet u fed it!

They move about this time of year & lay eggs in dry sand and there are many more around these days.(seen one crossing a highway last week)

A nice silvery snook taken off the S.E. coast is much better table fare.

All in jest!

In Old Virginia, there is a bunch of them, as in a few in every pond. Nasty devils, they are lightning quick and bite hard.

The old timers up there keep them in drums for about a month, flushing the water and feeding them regularily. They say it helps with the taste. I didn't like it, and a few years in a tub wouldn't have helped. It was difficult to clean the thing, and I decided that eating turtles was not the way to go.

In Washington DC, in a museum up there, they had one that came out of the Mississippi river. It was huge. Probably about four feet across, with a head that could swallow your arm. That turtle was probably over a hundred years old- no good for eating, but very impressive.

Release the thing and don't figure you missed anything worth while.
