Buckeye,

I've send more pomps caught at Canova than any other beach around here...I go to Ponce De Leon beach alot (great facilities for the family) and I have send them caught there too but not as many or of the same quality as Canova (go figure)

Brought some "goofy jigs" today to try those out while I wait for my poles to go off...it's touch football...get three poles in the water and a casting rod in your hand you increase your catch ratio by 25%...

I will try Canova - I only been there a few times and last time I got booted out by the swimmers. I guess the miles of beach to the left and right of me were not enough. Goofy jigs? Tell me what they are, how they work and where to get them.

I have had some luck at Paradise park.

Buckeye,

Goofy jigs are a painted metal jig that looks like a "banana" (especially the yellow ones...LOL)  The come in a variety of sizes (1/8 to 1oz) but the 1/4 and 1/2 are the most popular.  Basically, you cast them out into the trough; let them sink to the bottom and "bounce them" with a quick twitch, 2-turn retrieve.  The "bounce" is said to resemble a shrimp or sand flea getting washed up off the bottom and the pompano, whiting, snook and anything else in the surf will hit it...I got some off-brand ones (Goofy jigs is actually a brand name) made by Thunder Baits at Man-overboard bait and tackle on on S. Patrick road...Hot pink and yellow were the only colors they had that I had heard had worked for others (white and pink/white and the most consistent colors mentioned in all the articles I have read on them lately)

I'll give the 1/4oz ones a try in the surf (would prefer the 1/2oz so it would be less effected by current and wave action)...oh yeah, tip it with shrimp for added scent and taste...

Thanks for the intel about Paradise park...never fished it...did you catch pomps there?
